Micro Machining By Owens:

We offer Micromachining for metallic components, with micron accuracies, using Wire EDM, Sink EDM and 5 Axis Machining Centers . If your application requires non metallic composites, we can offer, through our affiliate company, Photolithography and an absolutely new method of Micro/Meso-Mechanical Manufacturing (“via build up of layers”) of 3 dimensional components of (example applications: Collimators and MEMS ), again with micron and meso accuracies.

Example of micromachining work performed at Owens include: Miniature Gears for ophthalmic industry, Sonic nozzles with precision venturies for flow  measurement, miniature components for nuclear armament timing devices, components for respiration monitoring equipment, Electron Microscope accessories and Fiber optic components including MEMs and optical switch components such as Collimators.

How so? We can offer references of course. We use our highly accurate Wire EDM machines, which can achieve sub micron positional accuracies and our 5 Axis machining centers, to manufacture equally accurate components and as required, the tools/plunge patterns for our in house EDM Sink operations. It is the combination of our experience and these machines which allows us to achieve the almost impossible

Measurement of Micro Machined Components :

In addition to conventional gage techniques, we use our 300 power magnification camera inspection system for measurements with a resolution of 0.1 Micron and with repeatability of 1 micron (0.0000394”).
